Heat health alert until 9.00pm Sunday 12th July 2026
An Amber Heat Health Alert is in effect from 9:00am on Wednesday 8 July until 9:00pm on Sunday 12 July.
Temperatures are forecast to reach the low 30s°C, increasing the risk of heat-related illness, particularly for older people, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.
The hot weather may also place additional pressure on health and social care services.
The Met Office and NHS recommend taking these simple steps to stay safe:
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
- Avoid direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day.
- Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds and opening windows when it is cooler outside.
- Check on others, especially elderly relatives, neighbours, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the effects of the heat.
If you are concerned about your health, or the health of someone else, please contact NHS 111 for advice.
