South Devon

The Torbay and South Devon Physiotherapy Service is for patients registered at a GP practice in Brixham, Paignton, Torquay, Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Chillington, Dartmouth, Dawlish, Ipplepen, Kingskerswell, Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Totnes or surrounding areas.

You can self-refer yourself for physiotherapy at Torbay hospital, without the need to see another healthcare professional first

This can be done by phoning the booking line on 0300 456 9987 or by using the online Patient Knows Best website to self-refer.

West Devon

Patients that are 16 or older living within the Plymouth, Kingsbridge or Tavistock catchment area, who are registered with a Plymouth, Kingsbridge or Tavistock GP practice can be seen at the Derriford physiotherapy service.

You must be seeking help with a Musculoskeletal problem, such as neck or back pain or soft tissue or joint problems such as strains and sprains

The aim of the new system is to enable patients to activate a referral of treatment without having to visit your GP.

You can either complete the online form or pick-up a paper copy of the form from your GP surgery and email or return it to us by post:

Referrals will be assessed by the physiotherapy team to ensure all relevant parts of the forms have been completed and will clinically categorise the referral to identify urgent cases vs routine. The team will also filter out any inappropriate clinical referrals and you will be informed by letter explaining the reasoning for the decision and will be encouraged to seek medical opinion from your GP if this is required.

East and North Devon

In order to see a physiotherapist at the Royal Devon University Hospital Trust (Royal Devon and Exeter and North Devon District Hospital), you will need to be referred either by your GP or Emergency Department clinician.
