Understanding Your Options for Private and NHS Healthcare Transitions

When it comes to your healthcare, you can choose to pay for a private consultation or treatment at any point during your care.

If your treatment is also available through the NHS, you can ask your private doctor to transfer you back into NHS care at any stage. This won’t disadvantage you, nor will you gain unfair advantage – you will receive the same level of care as if you had been an NHS patient throughout your entire treatment.

If you are planning to have a private appointment as the first part of your treatment or investigation, your GP does not need to complete an NHS referral at the same time. When you decide to move your care into the NHS, your private doctor will handle the referral process on your behalf.

This allows you to access private care when you choose, while ensuring a smooth transition back into NHS treatment if needed, without affecting the quality or continuity of your care.
