Public Transport
Bus
Stagecoach buses H Service run to Wonford Hospital from the high street in the city centre (Monday to Saturday, limited Sunday service). They also run to Wonford Hospital from the Broadfields area.
Stagecoach buses from Exmouth (57), Dawlish (2), Torbay (46), Teignmouth (2) and Plymouth (X38) stop next to the hospital on Barrack Road.
First Southern National bus X53 from Weymouth , Seaton, Beer and Sidford stops next to the hospital on Barrack Road.
Turner’s Tours bus 369 from Chulmleigh, Lapford, Morchard Bishop and Crediton stops next to the hospital on Barrack Road and outside the main front entrance of the hospital. Stagecoach Service Updates – this link will take you to the latest service information on the Stagecoach website.

Train
Exeter Central and Exeter St David’s stations are about three miles from both Heavitree and Wonford Hospitals. Stagecoach buses H Service run to Wonford Hospital from Exeter St David’s rail station and from Exeter High Street, which is fairly close to Central station. They also stop in College Road opposite Heavitree Hospital. Stagecoach buses D service runs from Exeter Central rail station and from Exeter High Street and also stops in College Road opposite Heavitree Hospital.

Car
Follow signposts to the hospital from most of the main routes into Exeter. Follow signposts in the hospital grounds to car parks. Car parking is by pay & display, so please bring change.
The number of spaces is limited, so please leave plenty of time to find a space.

The current charges for the RD&E on site parking at Wonford are as follows:
- Up to 30 minutes: Free
- Up to 2 hours: £3.20
- Up to 4 hours: £6.40
- Up to 6 hours: £9.50
- Up to 24 hours: £15.90
The RD&E Trust has provided free parking for patients attending the Wonford and Heavitree sites for regular treatment, for a number of years. The main, although not exclusive, areas that we currently provide free parking for are:
- Cancer Services
- Haematology
- Renal Dialysis
- Paediatric Oncology
- Neonatal Unit
- Diabetes
- Disabled badge holders
In addition, free parking is given to parents who are resident at the hospital as a result of their children being inpatients or who have individual requirements warranting special consideration.
Park and Ride
There is a Park and Ride bus service from the Sowton Park and Ride site, which is situated just off the M5 and A30 junctions to the east of the city.
The buses go directly to the RD&E Wonford site, stopping at the Peninsula Medical School (RILD), the Hospital’s main entrance, and the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC).
The Park & Ride is one of the most cost-effective forms of transport, with an adult return costing £2 (£1.50 single) and a child return costing £1 (80p single).
A return ticket is only £1.50 for all English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) pass holders.
Walking
The hospital site is around one and a half miles from Exeter City centre and takes approximately 30 minutes on foot.
Bike
Bike paths run throughout Exeter and the hospital site is easily accessible by bike. Bike parking is available across the site, particularly outside the main hospital entrance.

Finding your way around the hospital
Heavitree Hospital is located in Gladstone Road, Exeter, EX1 2ED (just behind the large Waitrose on Heavitree Road).

Public transport
The hospital is easily accessible using public transport.
- We are well served by local bus routes and a number of services stop near to the hospital.
- Exeter City Central Train Station is around 1 mile away.
- St David’s Train Station is around 1.5 miles away.
Bus
The Stagecoach buses D Service run from the city centre and stops in College Road which is opposite Heavitree Hospital.
The Stagecoach buses from Exmouth (57), Dawlish (2), Torbay (X46), Teignmouth (2) and Plymouth (X38) stop opposite the Hospital on Heavitree Road.

Parking
Car parking onsite is limited, with a small paid car park.
Under section 7 of the Health and Medicines Act 1988 Hospitals were permitted and encouraged to introduce Income Generation schemes, to fund their services.
The current charges for the RD&E on site parking at Heavitree are as follows:
- Up to 30 minutes: Free
- Up to 2 hours: £3.20
- Up to 4 hours: £6.40
- Up to 6 hours: £9.50
- Up to 24 hours: £15.90

Please note Waitrose now own a significant part of the Heavitree hospital site. Access to the main Heavitree hospital building is now via Polsloe Road and Gladstone Road only.
In addition to the pay and display parking detailed above there is an alternative car park at the Triangle Car Park which is situated approximately ten minutes away. This is not run, managed or owned by the RD&E. To get to this car park take the first right after the police station when coming from Heavitree hospital.
Park and Ride
The Green Park and Ride service which runs from Matford to Sowton serves RD&E Heavitree, with stops adjacent to Waitrose and St Lukes College.

Walking
The hospital is just under 1 mile from Exeter City Centre and takes approximately 15 minutes on foot.
Bike
Bike paths run throughout Exeter and the hospital site is easily accessible by bike. Bike parking is available.

Public Transport
Bus
Stagecoach buses from Holsworthy, Bideford, Ilfracombe, South Molton and Torrington run to the hospital. Call Traveline on 0871 200 2233 or visit the Traveline website for bus times.

Train
Barnstaple Railway Station is about three miles from the hospital. Stagecoach buses run from the station to the hospital.
Car
Follow signposts to the hospital from most of the main routes into Barnstaple. The entrance to the car park is clearly signposted. Drivers will need to take a ticket at the entrance barrier, then pay at one of the machines before returning to their car to leave. Please call our PALS office on 01271 314090 or for details of charges go here. There are weekly passes which work out at under £1 per day.
Disabled drivers who hold a blue badge can park free of charge in the bays clearly marked at the NDDH main entrance. Additional disabled parking is available in the main visitors’ car parking area, where parking charges apply. There are also a limited number of designated disabled badge-holder spaces at the entrance to most buildings on site.

Derriford hospital – Plymouth

Getting to the hospital
Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust provides services at the following sites:
- Derriford Hospital
- Rowan House (on the Derriford Hospital site)
- The Child Development Centre, Scott Hospital
- Plymouth Dialysis Unit
They also run Minor Injuries Units (MIU), which are an alternative to attending the Emergency Department when an injury is not considered life-threatening, but still requires urgent treatment, at the following locations:
Please allow plenty of time when travelling to your hospital appointment, if you are travelling by car at peak times there may be traffic congestion.
Please consider using public transport rather than driving. There is a public park and ride site located north of Derriford Hospital at the George junction (opposite the George Pub/Hotel). Parking is FREE, although you will need to purchase a ticket to travel on the bus. Most buses are wheelchair accessible. If you receive benefits you can claim a refund from the Cashier (level 7, Derriford Hospital). Bus timetables can be obtained from First Stop at the Civic Centre, from public libraries and from First Bus and Citybus travel shops. Timetables are also available at Derriford Hospital foyer.

Patient and Visitor Parking
There are a number of car parks for patients and visitors on the Derriford Hospital site. Parking charges apply 24 hours a day.
Pay and display: Some of our car parks are pay and display and require you to purchase a ticket from the machine located in the car park at the time that you park. Pay on exit: We also have pay on exit car parks which you access through a barrier, collecting a token as you enter the car park. If you use a pay on exit car park you will pay for your parking at the end of your visit. There are machines to pay for your parking in the car parks and also in the main entrance to the hospital on level 6.
Paying for Parking
- Pay and display machines accept cash only
- Pay on exit machines accept cash or card
- Visitors who can only find a space in pay and display and do not have cash can take their card and car details to the parking desk and pay by card.
- Parking can also be paid for through downloading the Saba parking app.

- Multi-storey car park (Lobby, Level 0, 2 x entrances on level 2)

Disabled parking: Free parking for blue badge holders is only available in non barrier pay and display car parks, up to a maximum of 4 hours when parked in a marked disabled bay. The full charge is applicable in all other barrier controlled car parks.

Park and ride
There is a public park and ride site located north of Derriford Hospital at the George junction (opposite the George Pub/Hotel). Parking is FREE, although you will need to purchase a ticket to travel on the bus. This is ideal for patients and visitors travelling from the north of the City to Derriford Hospital.

Torbay Hospital is served by several bus routes; 12, 13, 32 / 32C, 64, 65, 67, 67B, 149, SB5, SB6, and X46.

Directions
From Exeter/Newton Abbot
- Take the A380 towards Torquay.
- At the “English Riviera” roundabout (signposted Torquay straight on) take first exit.
- Pull immediately into far right-hand filter lane. You will see hospital signposting from here.
- At the traffic lights continue into old Newton Road.
- At the mini-roundabout again turn right (signposted to Torbay Hospital All Depts.).
- This is Cadewell Lane, after a short distance you will see the entrance to the hospital site on your left.
- Follow signs to Navy Zone Car Park A for all departments.
- For Trust Headquarters, follow signs to Blue Zone Car Park.
From Torquay
- Take the Newton Road out of central Torquay, towards Exeter.
- At the third set of traffic lights past Torre Station, turn left and into the entrance to the hospital site that is straight ahead of you. This is the Lowes Bridge entrance.
- Follow signs to Navy Zone Car Park A from here through the hospital site.
- If you overshoot this entrance, don’t worry – just go left at the next mini-roundabout (signposted Torbay Hospital All Depts.) and you will see the Cadewell Lane entrance after a short distance, on your left.
- From Plymouth
- For the A38 take the A385 for Paignton and then follow direction for Paignton below.
From Paignton
- Take the A380 ring road until it ends at the “English Riviera” roundabout (signposted Torquay to the right and Exeter to the left).
- The hospital is signposted from here.
- Take the second exit off the roundabout.
- Pull immediately into far right-hand filter lane. You will see hospital signposting from here.
- At the traffic lights continue into old Newton Road.
- At the next mini-roundabout (signposted to Torbay Hospital All Depts.).
- This is Cadewell Lane, after a short distance you will see the entrance to the hospital site on your left.
- Follow signs to Navy Zone Car Park A.

Pay and display

Pay on foot
We also have pay on foot car parks which you access through a barrier, collecting a ticket as you enter the car park. If you use a pay on foot car park you will pay for your parking at the end of your visit. Pay stations are located at Level 2, Outpatients and in the pay on foot car parks. These machines accept coins, notes, and credit/debit card payments.
Disabled parking
Free parking for blue badge holders is available only in non-barrier pay and display car parks and other designated marked disabled bays. Please see below for further information on concessionary parking.

Patient Transport
If you are a patient and unable to drive, get a lift or use public transport to get to hospital, Torbay Hospital Car Service may be able to help.
The Hospital Car Service is for patients who have no other way of getting to their hospital appointment but are able to get in and out of a saloon car with the assistance of only one person.
Anyone needing more assistance because of their medical condition should enquire about their Patient Transport Service.
