My back pain

It is common to experience pain from time to time and we can usually manage it ourselves if it is not too bad. Most people with back pain will find that the problem will improve with time. If your pain carries on for an extended time or is too much to manage, your GP or pharmacist can normally offer some extra help.

One in 5 medical appointments for musculoskeletal complaints is about back pain.

80% of the population will experience back pain at some point in their lifetime. In Devon an estimated 19% of the population, 217,783 people, have back pain, compared to approximately 16.9% in England as whole.

In most cases the problems causing your back pain will not be serious, and although the pain can develop suddenly and interfere with daily life, this alone should not be cause for concern.
